Joker makeup steps by MMxVampire Joker makeup steps by MMxVampire
I wanted to show everyone the steps on how the makeup is put on. Special thank you to Amanda Matthews :iconvicious--mistress: for taking the photos with her amazing camera :) AND for letting us use her airbrush gun!

First step is clean face, hair gel back (makes bald cap go on easier) second step is to put bald cap on. We show what the bald cap looked like before we altered it, because when you get one you will have to cut it to fit you. After we cut it we apply the spirit gum on bald cap edges to his skin. Then we put the liquid latex over the edges to smooth out any wrinkles and to give it extra support to stay on. Then comes the prosthetics. Fake nose and chin is put on with spirit gum then liquid latex to give it extra support, just like we did with bald cap. Finally we start putting the white base of makeup on. This will take the longest. We use an airbrush with special liquid face paint for the airbrush gun. Multiple coats are put on. We also use other white liquid face paint and white powder for touch ups if needed. Then we add the red lips and black eye makeup. Finally we spirit gum the wig to the bald cap. (Hold parts of wig you spirit down for a bit until it is on good)

And that folks is how we do the makeup and put on the wig. :)

(this tutorial was used with photos of our practice run, we don't want to waste makeup and spirit gum before the event we have to go to, still looks alright, but full makeup, suit, finished everything will be seen soon. We just needed to see if things work...and it does!!! :)

Now to finish up some other things...

The problem I've seen with creating a Joker make-up is that it's either overdone by burying the actor under a needless amount of prosthetics or oversimplifying it by limiting it to facepaint and a scar.
Here you seem to have learned from the problems inherent to both by changing the actor's profile with two prosthetics, effectively elongating his face, then finishing it with facepaint and a wig. It's simple but very effective because it changes key features on your actor without making it a mask and has a basic structure down to the point of not having to paint in major details with make-up.
Whether you're a pro or an amateur anyone who does a Joker make-up should create it just this simply.

Woah, love it!! I love the shaping of the nose and the chin, NO ONE ever puts that touch to their joker make-up even though its some strong Joker characteristics! And not to mention a bald cap and wig are so much more affective then crappy green dye of real hair, lol. I enjoy doing make-up when I can and I always try to use prosthetics and putty to add 3D FX to the make-up to make it more interesting, or at least proper shade lines and tinting for a 3D look. :D Great Joker make-up!!

thank you so much! I am all about perfecting what I take on. Joker cosplay needs everything you can think of. Extend the nose and chin, make a wig because his hair is insane ext. lol XD My boyfriend (one in the photo) wanted to do everything you said that everyone else tends to do, hair color and no prosthetics...buuttt I may have made him work with me XD but it looks so much better then it would of if we went with his way!! XD thank you for agreeing with me!!!!  oh but he does love it. He just needs to see what I see after we do it my way then he agrees! XD lol

patience is something he needs to work on with an excellent make-up artist like you for a girlfriend!! XD  It's hard to find anyone with patience for me, unless it's halloween, so I use those faceless hat mannequins or dollar store human sized skulls, and build faces and monsters onto that :D I hope the next BF I get will be a good sport!! XD

true true...i am a really picky artist. I am so thankful to have him by my side. Because he does complain...but in the end things work out when we work together and talk things out. :) I know he knows how I am (being perfectionist) and he accepts it. If he didn't, he would of been LONG gone XD heheh! :-P
